WASHINGTON, DC -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) introduced legislation yesterday that directs a potential $40 billion over the next 10 years to be spent on job training for those in the declining sectors of the economy and educational assistance for foster care youth. The legislation, Investing in our Human Resources Act of 2008 (H.R. 6501), would be funded through new revenue generated by regulated Internet gambling activities. |

Degli Martinez, 55, of Queens, New York, claimed the biggest single Lotto jackpot in state history on Wednesday, a $65 million prize that took over a year and a police probe before he was allowed to have it.

TALLAHASSEE — Florida Lottery officials on Wednesday said they will add the national Powerball game to the state's portfolio in January and become the new host for the game's semiweekly drawings. Adding Powerball reversed a decision nearly 10 years ago by former Gov. Jeb Bush, who feared the popular national game could damage Florida's offerings.

With the price of gas skyrocketing, the Florida Lottery is offering something new to entice people to buy tickets: free gas for life. It announced its first winners Wednesday night in the “Summer Cash” game. One winning ticket was good for $250,000. Five others won free gas for life, or $52,000 in cash. Fifty more won free gas for a year, given out in $2,600 worth of prepaid gas cards.
